Graduate Student Chih Yun Yin Awarded 2026 Cheng-Hun Lin Postgraduate Outstanding Paper Award

The Taiwanese Society for Logic, Methodology, and Philosophy of Science and Technology (LMPST Taiwan) established the annual national award in honor of Professor Cheng-hung Lin. Chih Yun is among the first recipients of the prize, founded in 2024.

Chih Yun Yin's paper, "On the Factivity Problem for Contextualism," was published in Acta Analytica 40 (2025). The LMPST Taiwan made the announcement of the awards in September to recognize emerging scholars' contributions to analytical philosophy. Read the announcement here.

Paper abstract: A number of commentators have argued that epistemic contextualism faces the factivity problem, which is the problem that contextualism, together with some plausible epistemic principles, will lead to a contradiction. In this paper, I argue that on three variants of contextualism, two of the premises of the factivity problem are incompatible. Thus, the factivity problem is dissolved in the sense that contextualism does not lead to such a contradiction.

Congratulations, Chih Yun!
